Fragrant mountain Scenic Area, is
located in Nansha Town of western Zhangjiagang City
and is 15 kilometers away from the urban area of Zhangjiagang on the east. And
it is the highest in Zhangjiagang . It covers an area of 4.37 square kilometers
with an altitude of 136.6 meters. It has always been said that Fragrant
Mountain boasts “18 views of Fragrant Mountain”: Angling Stage, Flower Picking
Path, Plum Blossom Hall, Ink-stone Washing Pool, Stone Tiger Gate, Holy Lake,
Kwun Yum Hall, Lotus Tea Room, Nirvana Tower, Pine Forest, Peach Blossom Brook,
Emperor Pool, Pilin Well, Night Rain Door, Tiantai Stone, Guigong Cave, Beacon
Tower as well as Army Cave, in which Peach Blossom Brook, Flower Picking Path,
Beacon Tower and Pilin Well are all municipal-level cultural relics protection
units, and Army Cave is a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit.
Moreover, there are some artificial natural attractions, such as Wangjiang
Pavilion, Tiger Mouth, Bleeding Rock and Cow’s Back, etc. Fragrant Mountain
Temple has now been
restored, and Peach Blossom Brook, Emperor Pool, Pilin Well and other
attractions have been effectively protected. The Mountain boasts lots of
valuable human resources, such as Yu the Great, Jiang Ziya, King Fuchai of Wu,
Xi Shi, poet Su Tungpo of the Song Dynasty, politician Zhang Shicheng of the
Yuan Dynasty, traveler Xu Xiake of the Ming Dynasty and Emperor Qianlong in the
Qing Dynasty, some military and cultural relics, including Army Cave and Beacon
Tower, as well as some sites of religious activities for Buddhism, Taoism and Catholicism.
It dominates among mountains in southern Jiangsu Province
with its long-standing history and culture, gorgeous natural scenery and unique
cultural landscape. Dongshan Village Cultural Ruins, located on the slope of
the east side of Fragrant Mountain with a total area of 60,000 square meters,
is the oldest one in the cultural ruins of New Stone Age that have been founded
in the Taihu Lake Basin and the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, dating back
800 years ago. It is also the birthplace of famous litterateur Liu Bannong,
musician Liu Tianhua and educator Liu Beimao. Dongshan Village Cultural Ruins
is a Jiangsu
provincial-level cultural relics protection unit.
