  • Wang Bole“汪伯乐”

Life story

Wang Bole (1900—1926) was born in Suzhou and originally named Wang Deji. He was a revolutionary martyr whose ancestral home was in Huaining, Anhui. Wang became parentless at a very young age and was brought up in Suzhou Nursery Home for Orphans. In 1919, he took part in the May 4th Movement and publicized patriotic thoughts. After his graduation from Jiangsu No. 1 Normal School in 1921, Wang first taught at the municipal primary school and then the private-funded Chunyi Primary School. Soon after the formation of the first united front between the Communist Party of China and the Kuomintang, he became a member of the re-organized Kuomintang in 1924. In the September of 1925, the CPC Suzhou Independent Branch was established at Leyi Girls’ Middle School and Wang then joined the Communist Party of China. He was appointed as Secretary of this branch in August, 1926 and took advantage of his position as an executive member of the standing committee of Kuomingdang to conduct revolutionary activities. In the same year, he was killed by the warlord Sun Chuanfang in secret. Wang Bole was elected as one of the “50 Heroes and Role Models Who Made Outstanding Contributions to the Founding of New China in Jiangsu” in 2009.
