It’s announced at a press conference on May 12 that the Suzhou Archaeological Museum will open on May 17 when the academic tour of archaeological museums in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region and the “International Museum Day” activities in Suzhou will be launched simultaneously. All non-state-owned museums in the city will be open to the public free of charge on May 18 which marks the International Museum Day.
The academic tour will offer visits to four archaeological museums in the YRD region, namely the Suzhou Archaeological Museum, the Shanghai Songze Archaeological Site Museum, the Hangzhou Yujiashan Archaeological Site Museum, and the Anhui Lingjiatan Archaeological Site Museum, allowing participants to learn more about the outstanding findings of archaeological excavations in the region. The event will kick off at 9:30 a.m. on May 17 along with the “International Museum Day” activities in Suzhou.
A cultural and creative market will be set up at the Suzhou Archaeological Museum from May 17 to 18, where there will be 70 booths presenting signature cultural and creative products from 22 museums. Market-goers can also enjoy live demonstrations of intangible cultural heritage and buy ICH products. In addition, local agricultural producers will bring seasonal produce, providing a taste of the city’s agricultural bounty.
Throughout May, the museums in Suzhou are going to launch over 50 themed activities including exhibitions, lectures, and cultural and creative markets.
