Recently, a naming ceremony was held for three 82,000 DWT bulk carriers built by Hengli Heavy Industries. These ships were named “ITHAK I”, “ELATOS” and “PUNTA DEL CHILENO”, respectively.
Hengli Heavy Industries is a subsidiary of Hengli Group, which, headquartered in Suzhou, is a Fortune Global 500 company that focuses on the full production chain in oil refining, petrochemicals, polyester new materials and textiles.
Among the three ships, “ITHAK I” was the first to start construction and it was delivered on the day of the naming ceremony, 24 days ahead of schedule. The other two ships have entered the commissioning stage, moving closer to their scheduled delivery.
These three ships are the first batch of vessels built by Hengli Heavy Industries for Laskaridis Maritime (LM), a renowned shipping company in Greece. Being environmentally friendly and energy-saving, they are the mainstream bulk carrier type in the ocean shipping market and also the latest-generation ship type that meets the Tier III and EEDlphase3 standards of the International Maritime Organization.
At the naming ceremony, Athanasios C. Laskaridis, chairman and founder of LM, congratulated Hengli Heavy Industries on its achievements. He said that it’s the first time in his 50-year career to attend such a special naming ceremony where three sister ships of the same type were named at the same time.
